Louisiana - "The Old South"
On January 8, 1815, American forces, under General Jackson, decisively defeat the British forces trying to capture New Orleans. The battle, which takes place after the Treaty of Ghent has been signed, is the most decisive American victory of the war.

Flagship University - Louisiana State University - has served the people of the region,
the nation, and the world through extensive, multipurpose
programs encompassing instruction, research, and public service.
A former LSU President - William Tecumseh Sherman - left LSU to fight for the Northern
Yankees in the Civil War of 1861 -- 65 and made the famous,
"Sherman's March Through Georgia" which helped to
defeat the South and their Cabinet
The Northeastern most city is - Shreveport - home of -- LSUS - Louisiana State University at Shreveport and the LSU Medical Center.
The Northeastern "Twin" cities are - Monroe and West Monroe - who lay side by side separated by the Ouachita River - home of -- NLU - Northeastern Louisiana University at Monroe. You can chat with the local folks on the Internet connection.
The center of the state is -- Alexandria - home of -- LSUA - Louisiana State University at Alexandria.
The Southwestern part of the state borders with the great state of -- Texas - and its largest city is -- Lake Charles - home of McNeese State University.

The Southeastern part of the state borders with the great state of -- Mississippi - and its largest city is - Hammond - home of the world famous Strawberries and - SLU - Southeastern University.
The center of the state has another famous city known for its Christmas lights -- Natchitoches - it is home to Northwestern University of Louisiana and many other schools from K through 12.
